Right Gibbon Slackline

I recently spent some time looking at the slackline products that Gibbon makes and wanted to share what I discovered. Being somewhat new to the sport I ended up buying the Classic. I’ve had it for several months now and am very happy with my choice.

Gibbon makes several different slacklines. Their main product is the Classic. The other options are the Jibline, the Surfline, and the Funline. They are all 2″ wide but some vary in the type of webbing material, which makes them more or less bouncy. They do sell 1″ webbing, but a lot of people prefer the 2″ webbing and I think it’s definitely a little easier to balance on.

After checking out their different slacklines and owning one myself, I can recommend choosing the Classic. It’s really their main product, the most basic and the best price.

It comes in a 49 ft or 82 ft length. I went with the 49 ft length and have not found that I needed it any longer. If it’s shorter, it’s a little easier to balance on. You can make either length as short as you want with the ratchet mechanism.

The Classic can be used by beginners and experienced alike. It’s very strong and like I said, pretty easy to set up. You can even use it for skateboarding or snowboarding as a portable rail slide. It comes in two colors, red or yellow, with the Gibbon logo on it.

The Funline is very similar to the Classic. Really, the only differences are the color and the length. It is blue with some bright pictures on it and is 40ft long. Since it is more expensive but shorter it’s not really as good of a value, unless you really want blue.

The Jibline is made out of stretchier, bouncier webbing but it is still plenty strong. This webbing makes it more dynamic, like a trampoline, and enables you to do more tricks by jumping on it. It is grey, yellow, and black in coloring and comes in a 49ft length.

If you’re new to slacklining, the Jibline can be a little harder to balance on and you will be plenty busy just learning the basics on the Classic. The Classic is bouncy enough to do some jumping on.

The Surfline is much like the Jibline, having more dynamic, bouncy webbing. It is 100 ft long and their longest line. It has a longer handle on the ratchet, to enable you to get enough tension on the line. The longer the line is, the harder it is to get enough tension, but this ratchet is up to the job. Its color is purple.

I can definitely recommend going with the Classic if you’re just getting started. It will keep you busy for a long time and you will not be disappointed.

What Is Slacklining?

Slacklining is a new sport that involves a lot of balance to walk on a line. This sport is like walking on a tight rope, but the rope that people use is different. There is a lot of information that people can read about on how to start in this sport.

When people want to look for something fun to do, and to get a good workout doing it, this sport will do both. This sport has a nylon line that is about one inch thick, that consists of a nylon webbing material. This material stretches out when pressure is applied to it. When people walk on the line, it will stretch out, giving the line slack.

People who want to create their own rope can do so, but they need to have a type of webbing material, as well as carabiners. They need two objects that the rope can tie to. People often use a ratchet system, or a winch to secure the line.

If people do not want to make their own line and tension system, there are places that people can buy the gear to start out. They will have a variety of options to choose from in lines, and tension systems. People often hook the lines up between trees, and sometimes between vehicles.

People who are just starting out will find that not everyone has good balance. Individuals may walk a twenty foot line in several hours. Some other people may have good balance and concentration, and they can walk the line the first time they step on it.

This is an all-body sport. It requires all the muscles to keep the person balanced on the one inch line, and it requires a lot of concentration, so they will not fall off. Individuals that are starting out on the line should have a couple of spotters on the ground to make sure the walker is okay if they fall off the line.

The advanced line walkers usually do tricks on the line. People starting out will need to concentrate on not falling off. The line is not high in the air, like a tight rope. Instead, it is only a few feet off the ground. This reduces the risk of people seriously injuring themselves. There are some colleges and universities that are trying out this new sport on their campuses for the students. This will give them a fun thing to do in between studying for exams.

When people want to know what it is to be slacklining, they will know that it involves a nylon rope that is created out of webbing, that people walk on. The term slack, in the name slackline, means that when the person is walking on the rope, that the webbing stretches out, which give the line slack. The sport involves a lot of concentration and balance, to successfully walk the line. The people who initially started this sport were bored camping, so they tied lines around trees to walk on.

Recommend Gibbon Slacklines

I just started slacklining and bought one of the Gibbon slacklines and I have been loving it. Slacklining is a great sport for kids and adults and it is really easy to get in to. It’s a great challenge, gives you a good workout and is a lot of fun. I highly recommend giving it a try.

I’d like to share a few reasons why I decided to go with the Gibbon slackline. If you’re looking at buying a slackline I can highly recommend Gibbon. I’ve had mine now for several months and am very happy with my purchase.

I looked around the web some before buying a slackline to see what my options were and to try to find the best value for my money. Most of them are made very similar, so it didn’t take me long to see that price was really the main factor for me in this purchase.

I should tell you that it is possible to set up your own slackline, but you do have to buy webbing and some other equipment to be able to do it. It’s also a little tricky to get it tight enough. If you buy a slackline kit, you have everything you need and it is easy to get the required tension with the included ratchet system. The kits take about 2 minutes to set up and aren’t really that expensive, so in my opinion they are well worth it.

The Gibbon slackline that I ended up buying was definitely very easy to set up and was significantly cheaper than some of the other options out there. Other companies that make them include Mammut and Trango.

Gibbon slacklines have a great reputation and are probably by far the most popular slackline manufacturer. Backpacker Magazine gave their slackline an Editor’s Choice award in 2009. Their company also showed up in the 2012 Super Bowl halftime show when their sponsored athlete, Andy Lewis, was featured on stage with Madonna, doing tricks on one of the Gibbon slacklines.

Due to their notoriety and the price, it was pretty easy for me to decide on buying one of their slacklines. I’ve had the line now for several months and am very satisfied. It’s easy to set up, seems like it will last a long time, and I can’t think of any reason to buy one of the more expensive brands.

After wanting a slackline for quite a while, I’m very happy with the one I ended up buying. Gibbon lived up to what I expected and I recommend you give one of their slacklines a try.

The Practice Of Slacklining

Slacklining isn’t something you hear very much about these days, because people see it more as tightrope walking. It is when one walks across a strap usually one inch across, anchored down between two points. Some do it with the strap close to the ground, some do it a couple feet higher, like circus performers. Slacklining, is the cousin of tightrope walking and is an unusual hobby for many.

The tightness of the strap can be adjusted by the person using it. The line is flat to keep the person’s feet from slipping around when they walk. Even though the line is adjusted to the person’s liking, it is still bouncy like a trampoline. The flatness of it makes it easy for the walker to perform tricks and stunts to amuse others.

Trees are used the most as anchors for the sport. Trees with a large trunk are best to use for tying lines. There are methods used to protect the bark and the trunk of the tree as well when this is done.

There are different styles of slacklining as well. One of them is called Tricklining. The line is set close to the ground, making it easier to perform. Different types of tricks are performed on the line, like walking backwards, bounce walking, and moonwalking. Then there are the more extreme tricks, like sitting on the line and throwing frisbees back and forth, and Buddha sit, and lying down.

Waterlining is another interesting variation. This is simply slacklining over water. It is a good way to learn new tricks, or it can just be done for fun. Waterlining can be done over any body of water, or even abandoned railroad tracks.

Highlining is done at a higher distance over the ground or over water. It is common practice to pad all of the rigging on the anchors used when highlining. A lot of people who do this sport consider highlining one of the best types of slacklining.

Yoga slacklining is where one can do different types of yoga poses on the line. These kinds of tricks are a lot more challenging and require balance and strong core work on the walker’s part. It is not one of the more common tricks but there are people who still perform it.

Urbanlining combines all the different styles of the sport. This is done in more urban areas, hence the name. Most people who urbanline prefer a 2 inch wide line so they can do it over streets. Others prefer a 1 inch line for waterlining on beaches.

The sport began in the 80’s and has now expanded worldwide. Men and women alike do it, and sometimes challenge one another. This is a sport that takes practice and patience but once that is mastered, anybody could do it. Anybody can find people doing this in places like parks, and creeks. They can watch for amusement or even try it themselves.
